The Menopause is a state of mind. That was the overiding message if you happened to see the program fronted by Mariella Frostrup, still a very alluring women well into her 50s.
This article is aimed at Women to bust a few myths and for Men realize that women can be beautiful and vital whatever their age so please read this whatever gender you are. I too am in my 50's and as fit as I've ever been, I still do all the action activities that I did as a teenager, riding horses at a serious level, swimming in the sea, cycling, hill walking and other outdoor pursuits.
So apart from HRT which is a questionable route how can we sail through the change of life. In this program they looked at all the alternative methods although strangely not yoga or Qi Gong.
Firstly the women who practiced mindfulness and deep breathing reported up 90% less symptoms, they could recognize when a hot flash or anxiety or insomnia was on its way and used this coping mechanism to reduce the effects.
The ladies who took part in exercise reported far less symptoms and bone density loss than those who did no exercise. They surveyed runners and cyclists.
Japanese women are reported to suffer least from menopausal symptoms and this was put down to diet consisting of Soya products and plenty of oily fish such as salmon including sushi. Eating a healthy diet with no processed foods was one of the most important factors.
Qi Gong practice has specific gentle movements to regulate your internal thermostat there are also yoga moves as well that give your body hormonal balance, none of these involve difficult movements or a level of fitness, the best is just putting you legs vertically against a wall and breathing, how simple yet effective is that!
Kegel exercises keep your vagina lubricated, tight and work for bladder control.
Qi Gong and gentle yoga also provide relaxation to allow you to sleep properly yet give you energy through the day.
Breathing techniques also calm the mind and give you focus and clarity and raise your serotonin levels vital to combat depression.
So please pass this on to anyone you know who is blaming the menopause for ruining their sex life, their body and making them anxious and sleep deprived, it really doesn't have to be that way. It's a mindset and the view that society has held for way too long.
